Parking

The Town of Taos uses parking kiosks for its on-street pay-to-park system. Kiosks are found at parking lots in the historic district.

Parking Daily Rates:

  1. Credit Card Payments:
    1. First hour: $2.25
    2. $1.00 Additional Hour

  • CASH Payments (50% Discount on 1st Hour)  ** NO CHANGE GIVEN
    1. First hour: $1.00
    2. $1.00 Additional Hour

Parking Rates for RVs, Trailers and Oversized Vehicles: 

$20 per day in the Loretto and Couse Lot. 

Paid Parking Hours:

Monday to Saturday from 8am to 6pm at all paid parking lots. 

Community Day Rates: 

A schedule of free parking days known as Community Days will be established annually. This schedule will provide designated days during which parking fees in Town-operated lots will be waived. 

Special Event Rates: 

$10.00 one-time fee. Hourly rates do not apply. Businesses with permits are allowed to use their allotted parking lots.

Parking Permits
 

Local Permits: Annual permits are available to local residents of the Town of Taos and Taos County for designated parking in the Loretto and Couse Parking Lots. Each Permit will allow for parking for two vehicles (two license plates) under one permit. Local permits will be approved by physical address verification and proof of residency in the Town of Taos or Taos County. 

Annual local permits are valid for 12 months from time of issuance each year and will be auto renewed upon expiration. Permits are non-transferable. Violations of the permit terms or misuse may result in revocation of the permit without a refund. 

Local Parking Permit Rates: 

  1. $100 per year permit valid for 2 license plates.
  2. $21.00 one-time processing application fee. (Non-refundable.) 

Local residents can apply for parking permits here.  Once Town of Taos staff validate proof of residency, residents can use a self-service online portal to manage license plates. 

Business Permits: Businesses located in the historic district of the Town of Taos are eligible to apply for a parking permit for their employees. Business parking permits are available to local businesses for designated parking in the Loretto, Couse and Guadalupe Parking Lots. Each permit allows parking for up to three vehicles (three license plates) under one permit. 

  1. $15 per month per permit valid for 3 license plates ($180 per year per permit).
  2. $21 one-time processing application fee. (Non-refundable.)

 

Unused parking permits are not refundable.

Businesses can apply for parking permits here.  Once Town of Taos staff validate an active business license is in good standing, businesses can use a self-service online portal to manage employees’ license plates. Businesses shall designate a fleet manager who will handle inputting employee license numbers, payment and account management. 

Only businesses located in the Historic District are eligible for a business parking permit. Individuals and businesses located outside the designated zone are not eligible for a parking permit at this time. 

Free Parking:

The Town of Taos will manage approximately 250 free parking spaces located at Town Hall, Taos Public Library, Bedford Street Lot, Kit Carson Park, Kit Carson Street Parking and Quesnel Street.

Parking Violations:

Vehicles parked in violation of parking regulations will be fined $25.00 per citation, due within 30 days. Fines paid within 24-hours will receive a 20% discount. Fines not paid within 30 days will be forwarded to the municipal court and additional fees may apply.  Fines must be paid at the Town of Taos Utility Billing Office or at the kiosk located inside Town Hall, 400 Camino de la Placita, Taos, NM 87571 or through the online processing system. 

All other parking and traffic violations still apply.
