The Town of Taos presents Movies on the Green Community Day sponsored by The Taos News. We will be hosting the second annual Movies on the Green Community Day, a family-focused event to celebrate our community, on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Taos Youth & Family Center located at 407 Paseo del Canon East.
Movies on the Green Community Day is a part of the Movies on the Green weekly program which provides our community with family-oriented movies on the Video Wall. This is an alcohol-free event.
There will be a special guest appearance from Kevin the Minion. Bring the kids to visit Kevin! Live music will be provided by local talent. The Arellano Brothers will perform from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM in the lobby and a special performance by the Taos Dance Academy will occur at 5:30 PM in the rink. The movie Minions: The Rise of Gru will begin at 6:30 PM on the Video Wall in the rink. Bring your own seating.
There will be minion crafts, games, arcade games, and community exhibits with information, activities, crafts, etc. There will also be local food vendors and a dessert vendor.
A special recreation swim session called Wibit Wednesday at the Taos Aquatic Center will be from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM with new Wibit floating obstacle courses. The entry fee for children and seniors is $2.00, and adult admission entry is $3.00.
Free carnival rides, Thea’s Zoo, Elephant Tower, and the Fun Slide.
Thea’s Zoo carnival ride is a unique spin ride, every arm has a different animal in what they call “Thea's Zoo,” named after the owner’s daughter. The four colorful animals are a dog, a dragon, a monkey, and a penguin. The Thea’s Zoo carnival spin ride is the only one in the United States. There is a 36” height requirement with an adult for children to ride.
The Elephant Tower carnival ride consists of five flying pink elephants. It has a high-rise up to 12’ moves in a clockwise motion. There are only three in the United States. There is a 36” height requirement with an adult or 42” without an adult for children to ride.
The Fun Slide length from top to bottom is approximately 110-120’ long and about 15-20’ wide. There is a 32" height requirement with an adult or 42" without an adult for children to ride. All riders must be seated going down the slide. Both rides and the slide are family friendly rides.
If you are an organization or business, it is not too late to reserve your FREE exhibit space. Community Day is a day for our community. We are inviting our community, local businesses, organizations, churches, charities and the school district to have booths that include information, activities, crafts, etc. Local charities and organizations rely on community events to help them gain exposure and aid their fundraising efforts. This event will also be great publicity for local businesses. Sign up early to secure your exhibit booth space as applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Application deadline is June 26, 2023.
Together as a community we want the second annual Movies on the Green Community Day to be remembered, and our youth will have great memories of visits with Kevin the Minion. Other memories maybe watching the movie on the Video Wall, the entertainment, spending time with friends, family and our community members!
